The Challenge

Being in the lighting business meant that nothing is standard, with the product not lending itself to being stored on pallets. This in turn meant that the products must be handballed, as well as being easily accessible. The building had excellent headroom and so the challenge was on to maximise the use of this space.

To add to the pressures the client needed to be in and operational in a very narrow timescale window as filming was due to start soon after the original lockdown.

The Solution

STS Storage considered different options, but the obvious solution was to design a mezzanine floor to occupy over 75% of the warehouse (30,000 sq. ft), meant effectively doubling up the floor area available to the customer.

How We Achieved It!

  • 2964 m2 mezzanine floor 114 metres long x 26 metres wide
  • Consultation to meet building and fire regulations.
  • The floor has three sets of pedestrian access staircases along each side (6 in total)
  • 1-hour fire rating to include a suspended ceiling, column cladding and fascia.
  • 3 no. Large Goods Lifts were installed along the length of the mezzanine floor these have a car size of 2.8m x 1.8m and a load capacity of 2000Kg.
  • Full Project Management and accurate phased schedule meant we were almost two weeks ahead of the tight completion date.
  • Worked alongside other trades under CDM
