The Challenge

To help Celestron start up a brand new warehouse facility to service their European distributors.

Starting the operation from scratch meant a new warehouse facility needed to be designed to serve their European clients. STS Storage Systems Limited were invited to tender alongside some notable manufacturers in the industry. STS were consulted from the off on the layout, flow and current capacity plus likely future growth. Supplying Europe on a large scale meant that the number of products and the mix was complex, with some products needed to be stored and shipped in large volumes.

The Solution

The range of products meant Celestron needed to store some pallets in smaller quantities and some in greater quantities, but both needed fast and accurate retrieval. STS Storage Systems kicked off the proceedings alongside David Murray by scoping out the profile of the product together with likely quantities for both now and the future. A combination of drive-in pallet racking and conventional pallet racking was decided on, with emphasis being on the drive-in being accessed from both sides for ease of picking.  STS Storage Systems were appointed having come up with the best solution at the most competitive price. Once on site the project was successfully delivered ahead of time and on budget. The operation now boasts 2415 pallets (1200 of those dedicated to the drive in)

How We Achieved It !

Drive In Pallet Racking

• 25 lanes wide x 12 pallets deep
• 8 metre Stow drive in system
• Floor guidance to lanes 4 levels storage

FEM Standard Pallet racking

• 7 metre Stow Palrack to maximise height, accommodating pallets 500kg Euros on 2.7m bays
• Allocated bays for picking using lightweight beams
• Timber decking to pick level
• Rack guards fitted to front uprights

Warehouse Lighting

• New LED high bay lighting
• PIRs fitted to shut power off when not needed
• Works completed To NIC EIC standard
