Mezzanine Floor and Office Fit-Out for Muscleworks.

Background

Savvas Kyriacou founded Muscleworks Gym in 1985 to create an unparalleled training environment for bodybuilders. Inspired by bodybuilding films since childhood, Sav began serious training at 21 to achieve many notable championship wins. His dedication to his craft and expert coaching of many champions have created and maintained a legendary hub for elite bodybuilders who take their training seriously.

The Challenge

Sav approached STS Storage Systems to install a mezzanine floor in the Boxing Training Area of his East London gym. The goal was to create a dedicated space to showcase his Muscleworks branded clothing line and build an office for his assistant, all while working around the existing boxing ring.

The key challenge was constructing the mezzanine floor without disrupting the boxing ring and ensuring the walkway alongside it remained accessible for use by gym members. We also had to optimise the height between the mezzanine floor and the roof to maintain a comfortable and functional workspace.

Sav wanted high visibility for the merchandise from the gym floor, making the size and height of the mezzanine critical for maximising the available space. It was also essential to keep the punchbags securely fixed to the wall beneath the mezzanine without compromising design or functionality.

The Solution

• Limited Access to Central London site
• Access to the rear of the gym only
• We had to unload the materials at 6am, with Hi-Ab Fork Truck attachment to unload the materials at the roadside
• Some materials had to be handballed in through the back door
• Genie Lift build required as no access for fork lift truck
• Special care taken to build the mezzanine with the Boxing Ring remaining in situ
• Boxing Training area had to be closed to the public during the build so time was of the essence to get the installation complete so Sav could reopen this part of the Gym
