Mr Central Heating

The Challenge

To help Mr Central Heating expand into a 12,000 square foot new warehouse in Portsmouth having outgrown their existing premises.
 
STS were consulted alongside an incumbent supplier to design a solution that worked in both the retail and warehouse sections. STS worked alongside a hugely experienced team to quickly identify the most effective flow of products and potential bottlenecks. Having accurately listened to the brief and refined a design to ensure they were happy with the design STS was awarded the contract.

Due to the compressed timetable, this meant that STS needed to keep strict measures in place to adhere to the schedule to cause minimal disruption to other “follow” on contractors allowing the branch to open for business on time.

The Solution

The complex range of Mr Central Heating’s products meant they needed a variety of storage solutions.

Careful consideration was given to the SKU’s and plotting accurate quantities. We identified 7 types of pallet racking/shelving bays were required to optimise their products and capacity.

Bespoke racking was created to enable horizontal storage of copper piping, vertical storage for radiators utilising heavy duty spigot arms with the ability to hand tighten the arms to the pallet racking beams to limit movement.

The bulk storage element was achieved by using 7 metre high pallet racking to create 220 pallet positions. To protect the mezzanine user anti-collapse mesh was installed to the single that backed onto the mezzanine.

• 35 nos. Bays on ground floor
• 34 nos. Bays on mezzanine floor level
• Bays adapted to have spigot arms
• Frame depth ranging from 600mm—1200mm

Mezzanine Floor

• Mezzanine floor load 4.8Kn m2
• Oversize up and over pallet gate
• Creation of transfer staircase to join existing staircase

Ancillaries

• Wire baskets
• 600mm & 800mm deep heavy duty spigot arms
• Louvre panels with mini spigots for retail display
• Low-level cantilever racking
