Background

Wedding List Solutions (Prezola) are the UK’s leading wedding gift list supplier and was founded over 10 years ago by a husband and wife team. They currently boast offices in London and Bath and warehousing facilities in Berkshire and Wiltshire

The Challenge

Wedding List Solutions (Prezola) were looking to consolidate its 2 warehouse operations in Wiltshire and Berkshire to a single location. Having considered various properties, Prezola opted for a new high-end specification warehouse in Swindon. STS had worked with the clients in the adjoining unit and was recommended by the landlord. STS were engaged to produce a solution.

Having scoped out the current operation and identifying potential bottlenecks, STS were able to identify a solution to fit the client’s operation whilst utilising the new warehouse space. STS settled on a mezzanine floor and shelving system to accommodate the high pick rates experienced in peak season time.

The Solution

Following detailed consultation with the landlord’s structural and civil engineers, STS were able to incorporate a mezzanine design which didn’t stress the slab and meant the column loads were calculated to stay within nm point load.

A joint effort by STS and Prezola looked at the stock and pick rates as well as the need for some larger bulk items. We designed a high-quality German-engineered shelving system incorporating a sensible flow around the mezzanine columns.

In order to future-proof Prezolas expansion, consideration was made for a goods lift to be added at a later date so an exact void with a handrail was constructed in the mezzanine floor.

The client was quick to recognise the benefits of a single contractor taking control of the site and STS’s expertise in this field. STS were able to control the site and incorporate the various aspects of CDM (Construction Design & Management).

As part of the fit-out, STS undertook to install LED Lighting with movement sensors (PIR) above and below the mezzanine and a gas heating system for the warehouse, central heating to the offices together with smoke detection, security alarm system and new 3-phase supplies.
