Did you know as of the 1st July 2014, it is a legal requirement for any ‘fabricated structural steelwork’ (including a Mezzanine Floor) supplied to a site should carry a CE mark?
Anyone supplying a non-CE marked mezzanine floor will effectively be breaking the law. CE marking is the responsibility of the party bringing structural steelwork to the market (i.e. your Mezzanine Floor provider and their supply chain). It is essential to check that your mezzanine floor provider is suitably certified. Penalties for non-compliance, at a minimum could result in the issue of prohibition notices, notices to warn, suspension notices and application for forfeiture. For certain offences the penalties can also include a fine, imprisonment or both.
Initially, Trading Standards will be working with any non-certified offenders to ensure compliance, it is possible that non-CE marked goods will not be paid for and will not be insured as banks and insurers become aware of the severity of non-compliance. A non-compliant mezzanine floor that has been installed in your premises may have to be removed and replaced.
